Autism Cures

Autism cures are hoped for and searched for by many parents of autistic children, often the question is asked is there a cure for autism. Unfortunately the answer to the question is no, at the time of writing there is no cure for autism. This may conflict with what you see on the Internet where there are many adverts proposing to offer autism cures, these are misleading as they offer treatments which help to alleviate the symptoms of autism but they do not cure the underlying causes.

Some of the ‘autism cures’ treatments are:

Therapies: there are a number of therapies which have a good success record in helping with the management of the symptoms of autism. Amongst these are behavioral therapies, speech therapy, music and sensory therapy, physical manipulation and play. Application of these techniques can make a large difference in the daily life of your autistic child and whilst, as stated, not being autism cures, they can help to make each day much better as they teach your child in different ways of coping with their autism.

Nutritional diets: often diet it becomes the focus when people are looking for a way to control the impact of autism. It is thought that the eradication of certain food ingredients can be beneficial as these could be triggering off reactions within the body. Examples of diet amendments include the removal of gluten and dairy products and also the elimination of artificial dyes and certain food additives. The underlying theory is that the removal of these trigger mechanisms may reduce behavioral problems. If you are interested in this the first step is to have your autistic child tested for common food allergies. Allergy testing can give you a rapid, visual method of which foodstuffs your child reacts to and a nutritionalist can help you to prepare nutritional meals which avoid these ingredients.

alternative treatments: with the rise of the global village alternative treatments are increasingly turned to as autism cures. Sometimes herbs are used rather than prescribed medicines as it is thought that they have fewer side effects. In addition mineral and vitamin supplements can sometimes have a beneficial impact on autistic behaviors. The approach here should be to include your doctor and discuss any alternative therapies you are going to adopt. It is important to ensure that there is no reaction with between the prescribed medications and the alternative vitamin and herbal supplements you adopt.

With careful, controlled experimentation you may find some alternative therapies or dietary modifications which help with some of the symptoms of autism. It must be understood that none of these are autism cures and no matter what the advertising claims are, at best these alternatives will help with the behaviors of your autistic child although they cannot cure the underlying condition.
